EV trends 2025: The electric vehicle (EV) market is no longer just a trend, it’s a transformation. In 2025, EVs are expected to account for over a quarter of all new car sales worldwide, with momentum showing no signs of slowing down.

According to the International Energy Agency, EV sales exceeded 20 million units this year, a dramatic increase from just a few years ago. China continues to lead the global charge, with nearly half of new cars sold being electric, while Europe and the United States are also seeing rapid adoption, thanks to a combination of government incentives, expanding model options, and a relentless push to decarbonise transport.

Charging infrastructure is racing to keep up with this growth. Europe, in particular, stands out as a hotbed of innovation and investment, adding tens of thousands of public charging stations in 2025 alone. The region’s leadership is underpinned by robust government support and progressive emissions regulations, with countries like Norway, Germany, and the Netherlands setting the pace. Fast-charging DC stations are now commonplace along major highways and in urban centres, reducing range anxiety and making long-distance EV travel more practical than ever.

EV Trends 2025

Policy continues to be a powerful lever. While some regions, like the UAE, have yet to introduce direct financial incentives for EV buyers, neighbouring countries such as Qatar are rolling out generous subsidies, customs exemptions, and even free charging at public stations. These moves are likely to inspire further policy innovation in the Gulf, especially as governments look to meet ambitious climate commitments and position themselves as leaders in sustainable mobility.

Automakers are responding to these EV trends with models tailored to local needs. The Suzuki Vitara EV, for example, has made headlines by outperforming competitors like the Nissan Ariya in extreme heat tests—a critical factor for markets in the Middle East. Meanwhile, Tesla is pushing the envelope with solar-powered Superchargers, such as those now operational at Dubai Mall, which generate a significant share of their energy onsite and serve as a model for sustainable infrastructure worldwide.

For automotive marketers, the message is clear: success in the EV era requires a blend of data-driven strategy, localised content, and a keen eye on both policy and technology. Highlighting real-world range, charging speed, and unique environmental benefits will resonate with buyers who are increasingly savvy and sustainability-minded.
